Detroit Leads South East Michigan for new construction permits
According to a recent Detroit Free Press article, and SEMCOG Detroit leads the region for new construction permits with 739 being issued in 2006, Macomb Township was second with 657 permits issued, and Warren was third with 433. Sales of existing homes were up 6% in the City of Detroit compared with a drop of 14% for all of Michigan for the last year. Permits for new single family construction are 10 xs higher than ten years ago in Detroit, while the southeast Michigan region is down more than 60% for the same period. This is good news for the City, showing a strong demand for housing. Taking a drive through the City proof can be seen on almost every corner with re-habs, conversions, and new construction being completed.
